Excellent Stress Management Books

Has too much stress become a problem for you? Have you been looking for information on how you can control, reduce or eliminate stress so that your life would be easier and more balanced?

Since stress creeps up in almost any difficult situation, getting the habit of reading some motivational books and books that encourage you to think positive, can surely help you to overcome stress when feeling it.

Here are my recommendations:

Write It Down, Make It Happen” by Henriette Anne Klauser. The book helps you develop a lifestyle that fits what you would define as your ideal life. The book mainly explains the effectiveness of writing and how it can release stress or achieve your goals. It has many practical suggestions about stress relief.

The problem with this stress management book is that it delves too much on spiritual references. Most of the advice that is given is more anecdotal and spiritual, rather than scientific.

7 Simple Steps to Unclutter Your Life by Donna Smallin. This book explains that the clutter that you see in your surroundings can actually create stress. It also defines clutter as confusing thoughts, ideas, problems and priorities that you are experiencing.

This stress management book is fun and nice to read. However, behind all the light hearted words, there are very good and practical suggestions in de-cluttering your life.

Naked by David Sedaris is another fun filled, light hearted book. Though not considered as a pure stress management book, this book contains hilarious essays and witty humor.

Laughter is the best medicine and a great stress remedy. David Sedaris essays in “Naked” can surely bring the laughter out in readers. Through humor, this book can make you focus on the lighter things in life.

The Instinct to Heal: Curing Depression, Anxiety and Stress Without Drugs and Without Talk Therapy by Dr. David Servan-Schreiber. The book introduces the newest most recent techniques for mental health problems and stress such as Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing, dawn simulation alarm clocks and pet therapy. Truly, the techniques being discussed here are unusual but effective.

The Art of Extreme Self-Care: Transform Your Life One Month at a Time by Cheryl Richardson.

This life-changing handbook by bestselling author Cheryl Richardson offers you 12 strategies to transform your life one month at a time. Designed as a practical, action-oriented program, each chapter challenges you to alter one behavior that keeps getting you in trouble.

The book is filled with personal stories of how Cheryl and others have learned to make the practice of Extreme Self-Care their new standard for living. With chapters such as "End the Legacy of Deprivation," "Take Your Hands off the Wheel," "The Absolute No List," and "Does That Anger Taste Good?" you will stop the endless cycle of self-betrayal and neglect that stems from daily violations of self-care.

Each chapter includes a relevant resource section that offers books, websites, audio programs, podcasts, and more should you want to explore a particular topic further.

Happy for No Reason by Marci Shimoff (with Carol Kline)

Many books have been written on the subject of happiness but this blissful gem shines out in a league of it’s own. It is an easy to read, hugely inspiring compilation of the latest research in and around the burgeoning field of Positive Psychology.

Every page contains either an uplifting case study or a practical exercise geared towards allowing the reader to discover how they can become unreasonably happy. I read the entire book in one sitting, all the while thinking, “They should teach this stuff in schools!”
